Those who are looking to save money on bills this winter should investigate how they can save water and energy around the home, a consumer body has said.
The Consumer Council for Water are supporting the Energy Saving Trust's Energy Saving Week, from October 25th to 31st, and said that families could reduce their monthly outgoings by addressing the amount of water, especially heated water, that they use.
Dame Yve Buckland, chair of the Consumer Council for Water, said: "If you're looking for ways to save money; penny pinching does not have to be painful. Taking five minutes to consider very simple water and energy saving tips could pay off in the long run."
Ms Buckland suggested replacing worn washers on leaky taps, having shorter daily showers and only filling the kettle with the amount of water you need are effective ways of cutting energy bills.
Last week, Credit Action said that people looking to save money on bills should conduct a 'personal spending review' to identify their outgoings.
